On Wednesday, April 3, 2002, the Jupiter Island Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of America, planted a live oak at the Hobe Sound Elementary School in celebration of Arbor Day. The annual event features a program by the students, during which they name the tree and are taught on how to care for the tree.
The Hobe Sound Elementary School was first in the nation to be certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon International - an organization that protects wildlife outside publicly-owned preserves and focuses on helping children protect the environment. The Jupiter Island Garden Club is proud to encourage the students in their endeavors.
